The Shoreline collection introduces 12 beautiful paint shades inspired by Britain’s coastal landscapes. Named after natural elements found along our shores, each colour tells a story that is rooted in nature.
The thoughtfully curated collection captures both the calm and drama of the coast and the colours sit seamlessly within both traditional and contemporary spaces. Each shade can be used confidently on their own or combined to create subtle contrasts and layered schemes, while also pairing effortlessly with the wider Fired Earth palette.
From the delicate fungi that inspired Earthstar to the protective shells known as Mermaid’s Purse, Shoreline celebrates the textures, tones, and quiet poetry of where land meets sea.
The Shoreline collection reflects our deep understanding of colour relationships, with each shade specifically developed to work beautifully on its own or to combine harmoniously with our other colours. This thoughtful approach ensures designers and homeowners can confidently mix the new shades with established favourites.
True to Fired Earth’s philosophy, each colour name tells a story rooted in British coastal heritage. From the tiny star-shaped fungi that inspired Earthstar to the protective shark egg cases known as Mermaid’s Purse, every shade connects to the natural world that inspired it.
The collection of 12 new colours spans from sophisticated neutrals to rich earthy tones:
-
Cowrie: A versatile greige neutral with hints of green, beige and grey, this essential shade bridges warm and cool tones effortlessly – taking its name from a small sea snail found living on rocky shores at low tide. Its colourful makeup means it pairs well with both warm and cool tones like Earthstar and Alabaster.
-
Earthstar: A grounding neutral brown shade inspired by tiny star-shaped fungi living in short turf along the coast. It tones well with Cowrie along with grey toned neutrals such as Alabaster and Peppery Furrow.
-
Oarweed: A common kelp seaweed found in shallow seas around our coasts, instantly recognisable for its rich, red-toned brown. This red works beautifully alongside Sandpiper and muted pink neutrals.
-
Sand Piper: Completing Fired Earth’s soft neutrals palette with accents of earthy pink, this creates beautiful pairings with the new red and brown shades and our earthy classics. Evocative of its namesake small wading bird’s brown upper plumage and white under feathers.
-
Mudstone: The collection’s signature shade, a deep red orange with brown undertones reminiscent of traditional fired terracotta. Mudstone is inspired by the fine-grained clay sedimentary rock formed by clays found in calm water settings like lakes, lagoons and the deep sea. Reflecting the landscapes where it’s found, Mudstone naturally complements cool water-inspired colours like Storm.
-
Beadlet: A sophisticated deep, brown-toned burgundy, the colour of red sea anemones found in rockpools and along the shoreline of British coasts. This shade perfectly complements existing earthy greens like Verd Antique or Tundra.
-
Sea Carrot: A muddy, pale-yellow neutral inspired by the gentle tones of this biennial plant, with its white umbels of flowers, found on cliffs, dunes and rocky places near the sea. It pairs perfectly as a soft neutral with other yellows like our new Sand Sedge paint.
-
Sand Sedge: A rich yet soft shade of yellow, it sits perfectly alongside Sea Carrot’s gentler tone and complements green-tinted greys like Limpet and Celadon’s Robe. Sand Sedge is a common perennial that is an important feature of our coastal sand dunes, helping to stabilise the dunes which allows them to grow and become colonised by other species.
-
Raw Amber: A rich caramel with gentle green undertones, inspired by the unpolished amber that evolves from fossilised tree resin and is found along the shores of East Anglian coasts. This honey-orange shade pairs well with Sand Sedge and creates contrast with plaster pinks or soft grey greens.
-
Peppery Furrow: Inspired by the mollusc shell with concentric grooves and ridges, this gentle, pale green-grey neutral is versatile enough to work with any shade from Lime White to Earthstar.
-
Limpet: Found on rocky shorelines and in seabeds, the nuanced colours of limpet shells provided the inspiration for this stoney green toned colour. Providing fresh possibilities with mid green-grey tones, this shade works well with fellow colours in the Shoreline collection, particularly Peppery Furrow, Mudstone and Sand Sedge.
-
Mermaid’s Purse: Inspired by the myth that mermaids used these washed-up shark egg cases as purses, this new deep olive green with brown undertones is the darkest in our new collection. It sits well alongside Peppery Furrow as well as earthy greens in the Fired Earth palette such as China Clay.
