Fired Earth is pleased to announce a new charity partnership with Schoolreaders, a national literacy charity matching volunteers to primary schools to offer vital one-to-one reading support every week to the children who need it most.
Fired Earth is pleased to support Schoolreaders as a Corporate Partner. In our respective 40th and 10th anniversary years we are working together to provide vital one-to-one reading support sessions every week to the primary school children who need it most.
Schoolreaders is a national charity helping children learn to read by placing volunteers into primary schools across the country.
Fired Earth’s support of the charity will focus on the counties where our stores, employees and their families are based.

The Schoolreaders service is delivered free to schools so that all children, regardless of their school’s financial situation, can receive this vital support.
The impact of Schoolreaders’ work is measured annually in partnership with the Institute for Research in Education at the University of Bedfordshire. Results have been overwhelmingly positive both in terms of the impact on reading age improvement but also on reading enjoyment and the children’s confidence.
Every year a quarter of children leave primary school unable to read to the expected standard. This means they cannot fully access their secondary education, which in turn may limit the life and employment opportunities available to them.
Research has shown that 95% of children improved their reading age as a direct result of the support Schoolreaders volunteers provide. 58% of children improved by 3-6+ months and 37% improved by 1-3 months over and above their expected improvement.
